2018 M5PBA Manitoba Open Day 2

Central 3 Leads the Way in Team Play

Day two of the 45th Provincial Open brought the start of team play to this year's event, and after 7 games, Central 3 leads the 10 game event by 3 points over Central 1.
With James Boxshall leading the way by averaging 272.71, fellow team members Laurie Kohinski, Aaron Humenny, Elsie Slimmon and Marlin Firby have positioned themselves as the favorites for the mixed team title with only 3 games remaining. Coach Al Lightfoot has his team operating on all cylinders.
Hot on their heels, Central 1, consisting of Ian Sylvester, Christy Wilson, top mens singles qualifier Scott Adamson, Jacquie Russell and Martin Vermette sit only 3 points from the top. A multiple game gap of 9 points currently exists between 2nd and 3rd, with Westman 1 looking to make up the 12 point difference between 1st and 3rd with only 3 games remaining.

With the top 3 Men and Women in team play guaranteeing a spot on the All-Star team, the play on the lanes will be fierce. Current mens leader Brandon Mansell (273.86), Boxshall (272.71), and Adamson (247.43) have the inside track, with 3 time defending mens singles champ Ian Sylvester (245.29), and Steve Derksen (245.00) well within striking distance. A number of other top players are looking to have a strong triple to work back into the conversation as well. Ladies competition for the Mixed team is equally competitive, with Christy Wilson establishing the current benchmark at 231.29. Second place amongst the ladies is held by 1st place singles qualifier Nicole Sentner (197.71) and is closely followed by Jacquie Russell (197.29), rookie Bailey Moncur (194.43), Sam Van Damme (191.14), and Sherry Reimer (190.57), with multiple bowlers less than 5 per game behind.

Team round-robin play resumes at 945 Sunday morning, with Singles Stepladder finals to conclude the event starting at 2 pm. Don't miss the Singles Semi-Finals and Finals with commentary from Chris Sumner and Brett Hendrickson, beginning at 230.
